‘Pete’ at Blenheim May 2019

I meant to add a picture of ‘Pete’ the Kestrel to my previous blog but did not have it quite to hand. Anyway here he is – a popular bird and a wonderful flyer.

Michael Davie – falconer – holder of an animal activity licence.

June news – falconry display update.

Just to reaffirm that we have the new animal activity licence required to continue providing displays.

It is sometime since I made a diary entry with news ‘so to speak’ – which reflects our busy time with displays. In general things have gone well. Blenheim was great despite not having Leah with us who had something in her eye the morning of our first day – which required minor treatment – it cleared up within a few days. It meant however she stayed at home to rest and ‘Pete’ the Kestrel came along. He was gradually appreciated by the family audience and was a firm favourite on the photography front.

It was windy though and we have had high winds for what seemed like weeks – effecting our displays and making us more reliant on those birds good in the wind like the falcons – although there is a limit. I shall say more about this in my next blog. We had a ferociously windy day at a show towards Windsor despite having a wonderful arena in terms of size and good a sound system it was a very difficult day.

But we continue on. Having the a local company sports ground as an additional ground to fly the birds on practice days has been really helpful. We miss the ‘Knowle’ enormously but it is just the way things have panned out with housing needs and the loss of green beltĀ  land.

This weekend we return to share the limelight with the Knights of Royal England for a Jousting tournament at a new venue. When I say share I mean a small percentage of their light!

I sign off by leaving a photograph of an orchid of a recently mown field for hay I took this morning out with the dog. It is in the margin/hedgerow and there are lots of them – that is good news!
