December 28th
The news reader said it is cold weather for this time of year – I think he may have forgotten it is winter! actually we have had such mild weather and with the disorientating effect of Covid on the perception of time and season – it is an easy mistake to make.
Anyhow our Christmas Day morning display at a local Hotel went well. I was surprised at the numbers – but the guests were practically all local with nobody from a London or Tier 4 area. Again all new concepts. The display itself went well – it was like a traditional falconry display with a small audience outside mainly seated at socially distance intervals around a fire pit.
Considering we had not done a display since September and nothing like this since March I did have a knot in my stomach the night before worrying about how it would go – something which I had not experienced for many years. I had put a lot of prep into the event and thankfully all the birds flew wonderfully well.
Normally we are busy over the Christmas period so it was a little strange returning home knowing that was it for the year. Anyway at least I enjoyed Christmas Day this year in a different way dropping off Christmas Lunch and pudding at my Mothers and picking up some warm cooked sausages etc from her to take home to add to our Christmas Lunch. It was different!
We are hoping that at some in Spring things will get better.
I sign off with a picture of our dog wearing her Christmas gift – she enjoyed her Christmas dinner though she felt she was a little short on seconds!
