Jarvis the lanneret today
I wanted to include a picture of Jarvis down the flying field the other day but did not have one. So today which was cold, grey and rather miserable I took a picture of him on the lure just after the catch to end his flight.
He is really maturing now and beginning to fly very strongly with his own style. In the book ‘Falconry – aspects of care of the trained falcon and hawk’ I was left frustrated at the end of his first year mainly because the weather was so bad it prevented me from getting him fit. He is a second year bird now and with the use of lofting for really cold weather we are attempting to fly him through the winter. As a first year bird re: the book because of the danger of wind tip oedema he was fed up and lofted for his first winter. Since then he has also moulted through and is now a different proposition.
Anyway here he is. Note the sock lure which I describe in the book.
