Thursday 30th July.
We continue to fly our birds each day apart from ‘Frank’ the Lanneret who is going through his first moult. As I said in my last blog this is the first time in many years that I have moulted a falcon through on the block while being fed on the fist each day. Two reasons firstly because his feather condition was poor – from the ‘get go’ and I do not want to risk aviary feather damage of new growing feathers and secondly I am home to do it. We did have another owl on order but it did not happen – it was to replace ‘Bo’ our current eagle owl who is ageing and I have decided only to use her for small group displays now. I think we will wait till next year now and have another look – hopefully being able to train the bird as we go through the season – which is the best way. This of course is being hopeful. I have stopped trying to predict what is going to happen next. Suffice to say these spikes in virus and the uncertainty it brings is very worrying for businesses trying to restart or indeed to start up.
Some good news we have bought a new falcon
to replace ‘Leah’ an ageing female Lanner falcon. We have called him ‘Troy’ and he is half a Lanner Falcon and half a Peregrine Falcon and is about 11 weeks old now. He is a hybrid falcon. He has trained up very quickly and has been flying free for over a week – he has a real vigour about him. He is a fine looking bird and I will sign off with a picture of him.
