November 16th – Publication day!

Well today is the day that my book ‘Falconry – aspects of care of the trained falcon and hawk’ by me Michael Davie is published and available to buy online. It has been quite an effort for the reasons mentioned below but I thank the ‘Choir Press’ for helping bring the project to life and getting it over the finishing line.

The book now has a life of its own and I want to do all that I can to help it on its way.

I hope the book will prove useful. That is its ambition. The techniques and practice I have described have allowed me to have a successful career as a falconer and in a way reflects the husbandry of a long lived hawk or falcon. Many of our birds have lived into their twenties and of course over these long periods things are bound crop up that must be navigated – either through prevention strategies in terms of health care or dealing with a lost bird or a myriad of other things that may test the falconer. Of course always striving for best practice.

As I have said above of all the section in the book it is section 7 on footcare that I consider to be so important.

The most simple prevention strategy of regularly checking the feet and coping when necessary will prevent foot problems which can be difficult to treat if not caught early. I will talk about other sections in the book in news blog to come.
